Bay Window Bistro Dining Bench

Bay Window Bistro Style Dining Bench
Bench Assembly and Details
The structure of the bench consists of 2x4 lumber framed in the bay window opening. The backing is supported by 5/8" plywood sheets with a 2x4 stucture. All of the finishing wood and trim was stained with a warm maple color twice before being installed on the bench.
Strucutre complete and trim pieces being cut.
Roughing in the trim pieces before they get stained.
To allow heat from the now covered up radiator to continue to effectively warm the space, the front of the bench consists of removable wood panels with a tine metal mesh. The mesh allows heat to filter through while remaining hidden from view. The bench is pretty much finished structurally at this point.

To make the bench feel more Bistro-ish, I wanted the back to be much higher. My mother didn't want a high back which made be concerned about allowing to much of a view from the outside. Our compromise was to apply a spray frosting to the inner window pane to prevent direct views to the interior. In hindsight, it was the best solution because a full back might have blocked to much natural light from entering the space.
The bench in its final form. The backing cornice is installed adding another layer of detail to the bench and provides a platform for placing decorations and planters, as in the case of the Poinsettas seen in the picture. The table and chairs are salvaged pieces that work perfect dimensionsally and match the warm reddish tone of the bench. As you can see the blinds have been retired, and we are currentlly look for a replacement. lol
